Store secrets server-side, restrict user permissions, rotate exposed credentials, use HTTPS and avoid publishing tokens or keys in websites or screenshots.

Voice OBD & IVR – India | Customer FAQs

ARIHANT GLOBAL SERVICES INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED • arihantglobal.in • Customer FAQs, voice file specifications, billing pulses, DLT compliance, campaign delivery and best practices.

1. Voice OBD fundamentals
What is Voice OBD?+
Outbound Dialling (OBD) places automated calls to an authorized recipient list and plays a recorded voice message. It can be used for permitted alerts, reminders, feedback and promotional outreach on the appropriate route.
How is OBD different from IVR?+
OBD initiates outbound calls; IVR collects keypad input (DTMF) or routes the caller through an interactive menu. A campaign may combine both.
What use cases are supported?+
Examples include appointment reminders, service updates, event information, customer feedback and opt-in promotional campaigns. Each use case requires the correct regulatory classification and approved route.
Can I run Hindi, English or regional-language campaigns?+
Yes, subject to the platform and operator supporting the uploaded audio. Use clear pronunciation and test with native speakers before launch.
Can I personalize calls with a name or reference?+
Dynamic audio stitching or text-to-speech may be available only on supported plans. Confirm the feature, privacy safeguards and pricing first.
Can I send voice calls to all Indian numbers?+
No. Delivery depends on consent or registered preferences, route permissions, number validity, DND controls and network availability.
Does OBD guarantee answered calls?+
No. Ringing, answer rate and completed playback depend on the recipient and network. A submitted call is not the same as an answered call.
2. Promotional vs service / transactional calling
What is a promotional voice call?+
A commercial call advertising or promoting goods, services or offers. It must use the applicable registered promotional route and respect customer preferences and consent requirements.
What is a service or transactional voice call?+
A call primarily connected with a legitimate existing transaction, service or other permitted notification, without inserting promotional content. Eligibility is assessed against current TRAI rules and operator policy.
Can I send an offer using a service or transactional line?+
No. Do not disguise marketing as a service alert. The actual content and purpose determine the route.
What caller-number series are used?+
The 140 series is designated for promotional commercial calling. The 160/1600 series is used for specified service/transactional use cases subject to eligibility and rollout; availability must be checked with the telecom provider. Do not assume every business qualifies for a 160-series number.
Can I use my personal 10-digit mobile number for promotional robocalls?+
No. Unregistered commercial calling from ordinary mobile numbers can violate TRAI rules and lead to blocking or enforcement.
What about DND numbers?+
Promotional campaigns must honor applicable customer preferences and consent. Do not treat an uploaded database as permission to bypass DND restrictions.
Is opt-in necessary?+
Keep appropriate evidence of recipient permission wherever required; observe registered preferences and provide an effective opt-out process where applicable.
When can I call recipients?+
Only during hours allowed for that traffic class and route under the current operator/TRAI rules. Confirm permitted campaign windows with support like 9 AM to 9 PM <Better to go with working hours>; do not presume 24x7 promotional calling.
3. Voice DLT, brand and audio approvals
Is DLT registration needed for voice campaigns?+
Commercial voice calls are subject to the TRAI TCCCPR framework and applicable voice-DLT/operator onboarding. Registration, chain mapping, caller identity and content controls may be required for the chosen route. Need to cross check with specific/parent site.
What business documents may be requested?+
Business registration details, authorized contact, identity/authorization documents, permitted calling purpose and supporting consent or transaction evidence as required by the telecom operator part of KYCs.
Does the voice recording need approval?+
A campaign audio file may need internal, provider or telecom review before activation. Submit the final script and recording in advance; approval requirements vary by route.
Can I change audio after approval?+
Do not substitute materially different audio without checking whether renewed approval is required. Maintain version history.
Why was my audio rejected?+
Possible reasons: misleading claims, disguised promotion, incomplete brand identification, prohibited content, inadequate consent, poor audio quality or a mismatch between the declared use case and script.
Can I use celebrity or third-party voices?+
Only with appropriate authorization and rights. Do not impersonate public authorities, banks or other businesses.
Can I include political, healthcare or financial claims?+
These are sensitive categories and may be restricted or require additional approvals. Avoid deceptive or unsubstantiated claims and obtain legal/compliance review.
4. File formats and interactive voice flow
Which audio formats can I upload?+
For the described Arihant Global OBD workflow: WAV, MP3 and MPEG, maximum 5 MB per file. Exact codec, sample rate and channel settings may depend on the route; test and confirm before upload.
Which languages are supported?+
Hindi, English and other Indian languages where the recording is technically compatible and compliant with campaign rules.
What is a main voice file?+
The first message played after the call connects. It should identify the brand, state the purpose and be short and clear.
What is a DTMF input file?+
An audio prompt requesting a keypad response, such as “Press 1 to confirm, press 2 to speak to us.” Supported key mappings and actions are plan-specific.
What is a hold file?+
Audio played while the system waits, transfers or processes an action, where the IVR workflow supports it.
What is an input file?+
A prompt or response audio linked to a selected keypad option or subsequent menu stage; confirm terminology and configuration with support.
What is a thanks-note file?+
A closing message played after the intended action or completed interaction.
What is a no-input file?+
An audio prompt played when the recipient does not press a key within the configured timeout, where supported.
Can I use multiple recordings in one campaign?+
Yes, if the IVR/DTMF package supports a multi-step flow. Confirm file limits, key mappings, timeouts, retries and any additional cost.
How should I prepare audio?+
Record in a quiet environment; use consistent volume, a single clear voice, minimal background music and an approved script. Avoid silence at the beginning or end.
Can I upload a 5 MB file longer than 30 seconds?+
File size and billable duration are separate. A longer file may be technically accepted but cost multiple billing pulses. Confirm route-specific maximum play duration.
5. Billing pulses, price and wallet
What is a 30-second billing pulse?+
A tariff increment of 30 seconds under a plan that bills connected call duration in 30-second blocks. For example, 1–30 seconds can count as one pulse and 31–60 seconds as two, subject to the contract’s exact rounding and answer-detection rules. <Try to complete calls within 28 seconds slot if you want to complete it on 1 calls durations>
What is a 15-second billing pulse?+
A tariff increment of 15 seconds under a plan that bills connected duration in 15-second blocks. For example, 1–15 seconds can count as one pulse and 16–30 seconds as two, subject to contracted rules.
Which pulse is cheaper: 15 or 30 seconds?+
Neither is always cheaper. Compare the price per pulse and the expected average connected duration. Short calls may favor a 15-second plan, but rates can differ.
How do I estimate my campaign cost?+
Estimated billable units = sum of billable pulses for connected calls under your plan. Estimated cost = units × contracted rate, plus applicable taxes or additional service charges. Actual charges depend on the agreed billing rules.
What are the current OBD prices?+
Rates vary by promotional/service route, 15/30-second pulse, volume, telecom provider, IVR features and taxes. Request a current written quotation from Arihant Global; no fixed price is stated here.
Are ringing or unanswered calls charged?+
The treatment of unanswered, failed, short-connected and voicemail calls is contract-specific. Ask for the exact billable event definition before purchase.
Do DTMF, call transfer or agent connection cost extra?+
They may incur additional fees, including call-leg, IVR, forwarding or agent charges. Obtain a line-item quotation.
How do I purchase OBD credits?+
Choose the package, obtain an official payment link or verified company bank details, complete payment and share the UTR/transaction reference with your account details.
Are credits added automatically after payment?+
Do not assume automatic activation. For manually handled wallet packages, credits are posted after payment verification and internal processing; confirm the process and timeline for your OBD account.
Can I get an invoice or refund?+
Invoices and refunds are subject to the quotation, tax rules and agreed commercial terms. Confirm validity, unused balance treatment and refund conditions before purchase.
6. Campaign scheduling, delivery and reports
How quickly will my campaign start?+
After account activation, approved audio, recipient validation, compliance checks and sufficient credits, campaigns can be queued. Start time depends on operator capacity, permissible calling windows and approval status; no fixed SLA is promised.
How long does delivery take for 10,000 calls?+
Duration depends on available concurrent channels, answer rate, average call length, retries and operator throttling. Ask for a capacity estimate rather than assuming a fixed delivery time.
Can I schedule a future campaign?+
Scheduling may be supported. Confirm the panel feature, allowed calling hours, timezone and cut-off times.
What are the common call statuses?+
Queued/submitted, ringing, answered/connected, busy, no answer, failed, rejected and completed are common labels. Exact meanings vary by platform.
Does “answered” mean the full message was heard?+
No. A connected call can end before the recording finishes. Use playback duration or completion metrics when available.
Can I track keypad responses?+
Yes, on supported DTMF campaigns. Reports may show selected keys, no-input outcomes and interaction timestamps.
Why are calls failing or being rejected?+
Possible causes include invalid numbers, DND/preference restrictions, route or DLT issues, insufficient balance, rejected audio, operator congestion or technical errors.
Can I retry unanswered calls?+
Only within the platform’s configured retry policy and applicable regulatory limits. Excessive repeat calling is discouraged.
Can I download monthly reports?+
Yes, where the panel supports exports. Download and securely archive reports at least every 30 days. Retention periods vary by platform; ask the helpdesk for your exact window rather than assuming permanent storage.
What information should I send for a complaint?+
Share campaign ID, account ID, date/time, approved audio version, route, masked recipient number, call status and any error code. Never share account passwords.
7. API, security, do’s and don’ts
Is an OBD API available?+
API-triggered outbound calling, scheduling, status callbacks and DTMF event reporting may be available under selected integrations. Request current documentation and feature confirmation.
How should I secure API credentials?+
Keep keys server-side, use HTTPS, restrict access and rotate exposed secrets. Never embed live credentials in public web pages, screenshots or shared URLs.
Can I upload a purchased calling database?+
Do not assume purchased data is consented. Verify the legal basis, source, consent and preference status for each campaign.
Can I hide the caller identity or spoof a number?+
No. Use only an approved caller identity and allocated route. Impersonation and unauthorized CLI manipulation are prohibited.
Should I disclose the business name in the recording?+
Yes. Clearly identify the organization and purpose; do not use vague or deceptive introductions.
Can I ask for OTPs, PINs or bank passwords in an IVR?+
Do not solicit confidential authentication secrets or sensitive financial information through unsolicited automated calls.
How do I respect opt-outs?+
Maintain suppression lists, stop contacting opted-out recipients as required, and use available compliant opt-out mechanisms.
What if I have a campaign dispute?+
Contact [email protected] with the campaign details and supporting records; investigate before rerunning or repurchasing the campaign.
8. Practical campaign examples
What does a compliant appointment reminder sound like?+
Example: “Namaste, this is [Clinic Name]. This is a reminder of your appointment on 2026 at [time]. For assistance, please contact our official helpline.” Use only for a valid service relationship and approved route.
What does a DTMF feedback call sound like?+
Example: “Hello, this is [Brand]. Thank you for your recent service visit. Press 1 if satisfied, 2 if you would like our team to call you.” Confirm eligibility and approval.
What should I avoid in a service call?+
Do not add discount offers, cross-selling or marketing pitches to a service alert merely to obtain a less-restricted route.
What should my pre-launch checklist include?+
Approved use case and route; correct registration/mapping; consent and suppression checks; approved script/audio; correct DTMF flow; test calls; billing pulse and balance confirmation; permissible calling window; report/export plan.
